THE WOLFMAN – VINTAGE HORROR SERIES – 2 TROY OUNCE – 39MM
From the movie “The Wolf Man,” the main character returns to Llanwelly, Wales in the UK to reconcile with his estranged father. While there, he becomes romantically involved with a local girl who runs the antique shop. As a pretext to converse with her, he purchases a silver-headed walking stick decorated with a wolf. The shop owner tells him it represents a werewolf (which she defines as a man who changes into a wolf “at certain times of the year.”)
In the village, whenever there is mention of a werewolf, various villagers recite the poem:
Even a man who is pure in heart, and says his prayers by night;
May become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright.
One night, while attempting to save a girl from a wolf attack, the main character kills the beast with his new walking stick, but not before he was bitten by the creature in the process. A gypsy fortuneteller named reveals to him that the animal which bit him was actually her son in the form of a wolf. She also reveals that he will transform into a wolf as well since he who is bitten by a werewolf and lives will turn into one himself.
He transforms into a wolf-like creature and stalks the village, first killing the local gravedigger. He retains vague memories of being a werewolf and wanting to kill, and continually struggles to overcome his condition. He is finally bludgeoned to death by his father with his own silver walking stick after attacking his girlfriend.
